Self-Will vs Gods-Will

The ultimate showdown

What is self-will? Let’s consider this: when someone passes they tend to leave behind a will. What is in this will? Their plans and designs for how things “should” go. Sally, you get our home that your grandfather built with his bare hands. Joey, you get the business. Christopher… well, Chris, to be honest, you were a royal pain in the ass so you ain’t getting shit. etc. The deceased is dictating how they want life to look from the grave! Kind of a gnarly concept huh? I think so too. The gift that God bestows on everyone human is self-will. It is not to be despised or worshiped. It is a gift. That must be handled with care. The question is: how are things going? How is the show? Did the audience leave? Are they booing? How many tomatoes have you gotten hit by? Oh, and the reviews?! Eeek. It is hard to see our ears on this. But, we have to take some inventory. Consider your relationships with others. Is there mostly harmony or contention and collision? Walking on eggs shells? Anxiety? You get the point. Let’s bring this in for a landing. We are all operating under what we want, need, desire, demand, plan, design, hope and wish for. Again, are you happy with the bill of goods by living this way? Are you content with the payoff? Hey, if you are thriving then don’t change a damn thing! However, if the show isn’t coming off so well maybe it is time to take a look in the mirror. Because whether you’d like to take this responsibility or not, the truth is that we all have a part to play. If other people are always more to blame we will never clean up the discord in our life.

Self-will vs Gods-will

The ultimate showdown! Questions like: How do I know what I want is actually what I want? What am I trying to rip out of this situation or relationship? Am I demanding her/his respect? Do I wish to bend their perspective to mine? How do I act when they aren’t doing what I want them to do? How easy is it for my day to be ruined? Do I need others to change in order for be to be happy? Tough questions huh?!

What I have learned is as I seek and attempt to build a relationship with God I will be moved or lightly shifted here and there into the flow or rhythm of His will. Being in that, I will experience the payoff of harmony, peace, contentment etc. And you begin to learn what thoughts, words and deeds contributed to that harmony. Then, it is our responsibility to continue to step into that harmony. We will never be perfect. However, I think that all that God asks of us is for us to try the best we know how to grow and develop into His likeness. Whatever that may look like for you! You have free rein in that area! Your conception of God is your choice! Keep it fun. Keep it light. Investigate. Be curious. Why do you think the way you think? Speak how you do? Move how you move?
